The impact of corona treatment on seal strength

Under normal circumstances, the corona treatment will only be on one surface of the film. There can, however, be instances when the sealant surface can be accidentally treated. This is known as backtreat or backside treat and can be caused by a number of factors, all of which relate to air getting behind the web as it goes through the treater.

Hot Tack

Hot tack is the strength of a hot seal during the first 500 to 1000 milliseconds after the sealing die (platen) opens away from the film. The strength of a seal changes rapidly as the seal cools. Therefore, hot tack is a variable that is a function of time and of ambient-cooling conditions affecting transfer of heat from the seal to its environment.
